Samsung unveiled the W2017 dual-display and a fingerprint scanner

A year back in November, Samsung unveiled its dual-display Android flip smartphone W2016 in China exclusively. Clearly, this category is less peopled among the smartphone today; it provides a good option for the users. Now almost a year later Samsung unveiled the W2017 dual-display and a fingerprint scanner.

The smartphone has been listed on the company’s official website and just like the previous version it is dubious that it will be launched outside China. The W2017 runs on Android 6.0.1 Marshmallow and features two 4.2-inch Super AMOLED displays with HD screen (1080×1920 pixels) resolution. The smartphone is powered by a quad-core Snapdragon 820 SoC (clocked at two cores at 2.1GHz and clocked at two cores at 1.6GHz paired with 4GB of RAM.

Coming to the optics, it comes with a 12-megapixle primary camera along with f/1.7 aperture and flash, video recording support of 4K, and 5-megapixel, front snapper along with a f/1.9 aperture. It packs an internal storage capacity of 64GB, which can be further expanded up to 256GB via microSD card in a hybrid dual-SIM arrangement. For connectivity, the smartphone includes 4G LTE unfortunately with no support for Indian LTE bands, Wi-Fi 802.11, Bluetooth v4.1, and a Micro-USB port that also works as a headphone jack. The Samsung W2017 packs a 2300mAh battery which the company claims to deliver 64 hours of standby.

The smartphone measures at 127.8×61.4×15.8mm and weighs 208 grams. It features an ‘always on’ display and also supports wireless fast charging. Sensor option on the handset includes the accelerometer, heart rate sensor, proximity sensor, ambient light sensor, magnetometer, and gyroscope.

The pricing and availability of the smartphone have yet to be announced by the company; rumours suggest the Samsung W2017 will be coming with a hefty price tag of CNY 20,000 (around Rs. 1.9 lakhs). If the rumours are true, it will be twice as pricey as it was antecedent, which is already an expensive smartphone with a price tag of CNY 9,999 (Rs. 98,700 approximately).
