LG X Screen Reviews with Specifications and Features

Recently several smartphones have been launched with affordable price and top-notch features at viable prices. Sadly the real fight for smartphone manufacturers has been minimizing the cost and cutting the prices. This means that the companies are not working on presenting the products with innovation further than a definite price limit. Though, LG has managed to bring something unique in the market with its LG X Screen smartphones.

PHYSICAL OVERVIEW

The handsets are available in Black, White, Pink, and Gold. The first thing that hits you is how light weighted the phone is; it’s just 20 grams. As compared to other smartphones in this series, X Screen feels very light. The right of the device features hybrid SIM slot and power button. Users have the option of using two Nano-SIM or one SIM and a micro-SD card for storage. On the left side, it has volume buttons. On the bottom, it has a 3.5mm audio jack, speaker grill and charging port. The surface of the phone is made of plastic and is round edged. The back of the phone is made of glass which looks like LG Nexus 4, except that the Nexus had a glossy design under and X Screen has a plain glass.

DISPLAY

The device comes with not just one but two screens. And the main highlight of the phone is its always-on screen.

Where all the smartphones come with screens larger than 5-inch, breaking the current trend X Screen comes with a 4.93-inch display. The screen features a TFT LCD full HD display with 720*1280 pixels. The display seems lively and has a not so bad clarity. Coming to its second screen, thanks to its size and placement, the screen is easy to access. It has four designated Quick Tools for the sound profile, SOS, Wi-Fi, and flashlight.

At the launch event, LG states that X Screen is the first smartphone in the country which comes with SOS feature. And we know that as per DoT (Department of Telecommunications) ruling every smartphone will have to add Panic Button. This feature can be used on LG X Screen through the second screen anytime, or continuously pushing the power button for five times. The company says that the SOS feature will automatically send a message to the user’s emergency contact.

Except for the above options you can customize your options for the second screen. You can pick four desired apps or four desired contacts to get an easy access without unlocking the phone. The second screen also displays recently used apps and notifications for texts, calls, and emails. It also allows the users to check the date, time and some other notifications without having to unlock the phone. The second screen also allows you to access music player. Basically, the second screen in LG X Screen is a very versatile feature that can save users time and effort. In addition to the above functions, it also shows your name and or any other customized text. LG executive at the launch stated that the device is made to lessen the interruptions, which will allow the users to see notifications for apps and calls without disturbing the ongoing activity in the main screen. The phone runs on an Android 6.0 Marshmallow. The interface of the smartphone is easy and handy; you will have no problem in finding any feature. The home screen has five icons for the messages, camera, dialer, chrome, and gallery placed on the bottom of the display. LG has opted for on-screen navigation buttons in place of capacitive ones. As featured in previous LG phones dual-SIM handsets, users find an on-screen button to quick access to SIM management setting.

CAMERA

It features a 13-megapixel rear camera along with f/2.2 aperture and LED flash that is capable of taking decent looking pictures with normal indoor lighting with right color showing up. Low light photos are also above average.

Coming to the front camera, it has an 8-megapixel selfie camera which takes decent selfies but lacks the sharpness. It has plenty of options for rear snapper on the app. One of the advantages is that it locks focus quickly.

But overall, by looking at the camera performance, you can have phones with better camera performance at X Screen’s price range especially the front camera.

PERFORMANCE OVERVIEW

Coming to the internal specifications, the device is powered by a 1.2GHz quad-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 410 Soc along with 2GB RAM and it has an internal storage of 16GB. The storage can be further expanded up to 2TB. X Screen is capable of handling multitasking and jumping from one app to another without and difficulty.

BATTERY

It has a battery capacity of 2300mAh, which seems pretty nimble for a phone with dual-screen. Those who use their phones a lot will be disappointed with the battery life. This phone is not for the graphic user or heavy gamers. Additionally, the charger is too slow, which may compel users to go for a third party charger. The charging time is around 4 hours, that too when the phone is not being used.

CONCLUSION

GOOD

LG X Screen is a good smartphone when it comes to looks and quality. The phone is cleverly made and an affordable device that is easy to use, one of the quality that most of the Android phones lack.

Regardless of its limited specifications, the performance of the phone is strong. And of course the always-on secondary screen is handy; it minimizes the time and efforts.

BAD

The phone lacks quality when it comes to the camera; especially the 8-MP front camera is not as sharp as it was expected. As mentioned above you can find phones with better camera performance at the same price range.

And we think it’s high time that LG ditch the faux-metal plastic edge, even though it feels good in the hand, it is not a good look.

VERDICT

LG X Screen is a reasonable choice for people who are looking for a phone with, sound design, well-built performance, a good battery life and a capable camera performance.

However the new Moto G which offers almost similar features, X Screen may possibly find itself in an uncertain place at the market.
